Our Churchyards

WELCOME TO OUR CHURCHYARDS

I am writing this notice on behalf of the Parochial Church Council (PCC) but I would first like to add my own personal message to you on behalf of the all members of the church.   We have churchyards at All Saints Parish Church Ledsham and St James Church Fairburn and you are welcome to visit.  Please be aware that they are quiet places of remembrance.  If you are mourning a loved one, on behalf of the church community I would like you to know that the prayers and good will of the church are with you, and may I remind you of the words of comfort that Jesus himself offered when he said ‘blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.’ Matthew 5:4

Please visit the Contact page for further information.

PLEASE RESPECT THE CHURCHYARD RULES

As custodians of the churchyard the PCC would like to request you to help us maintain it in accordance with the rules that are laid down for us by York Diocese.  These regulations are available from me or online and their aim is to ensure that churchyards are simple to maintain and have a traditional appearance that allows all visitors a peaceful place for quiet remembrance.  So it is requested that each grave should have nothing more than a simple memorial to mark it. Other items should not be placed on graves please.

The picture below is not one of the churches in the parish but the picture indicates how a church graveyard should appear.  You will notice that there is only grass between the gravestones. No permission is given for other items.
